Major Topics:

Accountant’s Guide to the Galaxy of Minimizing Professional Liability
Take a trip to another world where CPAs have greatly reduced the risk of malpractice claims by developing practical solutions to avoid lawsuits, improving client communication, defining expectations, and both understanding the threat and lessening the risk of privacy and security breaches on professionals. Then, we see how we can bring these standards back to this world.
Mike Cosgrove – President, Professional Concepts Insurance Agency, Brighton

Communicating Across Generations
For the first time in history, there could be up to five generations working together in the workplace. Bridge the gap with this interactive workshop including a historical look at the different generations, what each generation wants in the workplace, and how to understand and benefit from the strengths of each group.
Lisa Harvey Roach, PMP – Professional Trainer/Speaker & Consultant, Wisdom Consulting, Farmington Hills

Turning Risks into Premiums and Profit
Our speakers outline the member-owned group captive insurance model. From premium calculation and loss examples to share ownership options, expect insight on full captive financial programs.
Paul Mattes, CIC, LIC, CRM, CRA, CBWA, CAWC – Vice President, Sterling Insurance Group, Sterling Heights
Keith J. Merkel – Senior Vice President, Captive Resources LLC, Itasca, IL

Ethical Considerations While Managing Conflicts of Interest
Significant repercussions can occur both legally and for the reputation of yourself and your firm if ethics are not given the utmost respect and precedence in conflict of interest situations. Fortunately, CPAs can “ACE” conflicts of interest by considering: Awareness, Communication, and Exit. Conflicts can be handled with cooperation and confidentiality waivers according to Circular 230, but there may be preemptive steps that could be just as effective. The AICPA Code of Professional Conduct will be referenced.
Raymond T. Rowe, CPA, JD – Attorney, Raymond T. Rowe PC, Troy

Identifying It: Error or Intentional Fraud
We walk you step by step through how to spot the red flags of misappropriation and other financial statement fraud schemes, how to catch some of these frauds through bank statement reconciliations and other analytical procedures, and how to tell whether a financial statement reporting error is just a mistake or intentional fraud.
Christine L. Hoppe, CPA/ABV/CFF, CVA – Director, Crawford & Winiarski Financial Consulting, Detroit
Lisa M. Zelinski, CPA/CFF – Manager, Crawford & Winiarski Financial Consulting, Detroit
